Dog Friendly Breaks in Dumfries & Galloway

Planning a break in Dumfries & Galloway and don’t want to leave the dog at home? At the Black Bull Inn in Moffat, your four-legged friend is as welcome as you are. We’re an independently owned inn dating back to 1568, with boutique rooms, a dog-friendly bar and a bistro, all under one roof in the heart of Moffat.

Voted one of the UK’s most dog-friendly businesses

In the 2021 TeamDogs / Daily Mirror / Daily Record vote to find the UK’s most dog-friendly business, the Black Bull Inn was the highest-scoring establishment in Scotland and 14th in the whole of the UK. It’s a result we’re proud of, and it reflects the way we look after every dog who comes through the door. Put simply, the Black Bull is the place pooch wants to bring his humans.

Dog-friendly rooms at pavement level

Our dog-friendly rooms are in the garden area at pavement level, so it’s easy to step outside for a walk or when nature calls. Choose from:

  • Classic King Garden Room: a generously proportioned room in our garden annexe with a super-king bed, smart TV, Nespresso machine, fluffy bathrobes and a separate shower room.
  • Garden Deluxe King: plenty of room to lounge, with a feature fireplace, reclining armchair, walk-in shower, 55-inch smart TV and Nespresso machine.

Every room comes with luxury Molton Brown toiletries, Wi-Fi and all the little touches you’d expect from a boutique hotel. Browse all our rooms.

A pooch pack waiting in your room

When you arrive, your dog will find a pooch pack waiting in the room, complete with treats, food, a water bowl and a lovely soft bed. Gone are the days when a kennel was the only option while the family went on holiday: dogs are family, and they deserve a break too.

Dine with your dog in our bar

Once you’ve settled in, head over to our olde worlde, dog-friendly bar. Your pal can laze at your feet while you enjoy a pint of local cask ale, lunch or dinner. We always have at least three cask ales on from local breweries, including Lowland Brewing of Lockerbie and the Five Kingdoms Brewery on the Isle of Whithorn.

Your dog doesn’t have to miss out, either. Our special Doggy Dinners menu means they can enjoy a treat of their own while you eat.
